"While a standard engine is powered by a belt connected to the crankshaft, a turbo engine runs on its own exhaust steam, making it more energy efficient."

Dafuq is that?

LULZ! The writer should also add F1 cars run a special type of blinker fluid, FIA-approved.

WAT?

we have a new one to join "Blinker Fluid".
You can now go to the shop and get your frayed Crankshaft Belt replaced.

Written by a woman, assisted by another woman, just for clarification. Not that any man wouldn't have done just as poorly, or a woman who knew what she was talking about would have done better.

Maybe he has been watching too many wet races.

You know, F1 engines do run a special series of tubes...
BELT driven tubes.

Shirley is confused by how someone could be that wrong.

Shady Mechanic: "You see little lady, what you dun did here is, you let the blinker fluid get low. And when dat happens, you fail to keep your crankshaft belt lubricated. Oh, that? That's the little belt that turns your big motor right dere! By the way, your flux capacitor is completely discharged, ma'am."

I like this one too:
Indeed, throughout the 1980s, the powerful turbo was the F1 engine of choice, able to perform at high altitudes and grip onto steep angles .
The engine grips onto steep angles? What they fuck are they even trying to say here? I am at a complete loss...

"Kimi, keep an eye on the steam pressure. You have a 22 second lead, but you are getting low on coal."

Shady Mechanic's Assistant: "Oh yeah, you never wanna be out der drivin round wit a frayed crankshaft belt! heh heh heh"

Wow. Hey off-roaders...make sure you get a turbo installed so you can grip onto steep angles!

Fuckin' cars. How do they work?
![]() 08/12/2013 at 11:52 |

Not only that, but the highest altitude track is what? Interlagos @ ~2600ft?
The turbo wasn't chosen because it had an advantage at altitude, but because it had an advantage everywhere.
3.0L NA is not at all comparable to effective displacement next to 1.5L @ 10K RPM being fed 4-5 Bar boost with decent intercooling and fuel that is so stable it had to be HEATED before injection.

GUYS! You have this all wrong! The ladies that wrote the article are clearly the witches that designed the turbocharger in the first place. They are finally telling us their secrets!

The worst part is thinking about someone showing up to interview Alain Prost without the slightest grasp of the subject mater..

Maybe you have to get your crankshaft belt replaced, but I run more efficiently off my own steam, thank you.

Well, perfect combustion results in carbon dioxide and water vapor as it's only byproducts, so technically I guess there's steam in your exhaust.

Ah yes. Remember back in the early 2000s when they had Traction Engines equipped as well?

I am really surprised and saddened that this didn't get cross-posted to the front page. I would have thought that Gawker would like to take any chance it can get to take jabs at CNN.
...and I was really looking forward to all of the jokes that this would have invariably led to on the FP.
